The Eee PC T91 is the first touchscreen Netbook of the company that created the category of laptops Netbook. It is too early to know if consumers are going crazy for T91 in the same way they have for all the other Eee PC, but it’s safe to say this is quite unique mini tablet. The Eee PC T91 has a thin and light chassis design weight of just two pounds and measuring no more than an inch thick. The lithium polymer battery composed certainly helps to maintain a minimum thickness, but the lack of an extended life battery option may bother some buyers (more on that later).

The new Eee PC T91 uses a nice, bright 8.9-inch backlit LED display panel with a resolution of 1024×600. The glossy screen offers good color and contrast, but the glare and reflections under strong lights indoors or outdoors under direct sunlight can be a problem. Accuracy of the touch screen looks good, although our review unit required a recalibration after he arrived from the touch screen shows the activity of half an inch to the right of where we’ve touched the screen. After calibration everything worked fine.

The HP TouchSmart tx2z stands alone as a rare example of a consumer-focused convertible tablet PC. We’re not sure if this is because non-business-related laptop users don’t see the value of a touch-screen tablet, but hopefully they’ll catch on soon.

The tx2z is an evolution of HP’s previous tx1000 and tx2000 models (from 2007 and 2008, respectively), adding the TouchSmart moniker and going beyond the digital pen and single-finger input by adding multitouch commands.

The majority of the keyboard is a good size for regular typing. The only bit of funny key reshaping was the function keys that are comically small. If you don’t feel like navigating directly on the screen with pen or finger, there is a small, but serviceable, touch pad. Read more…
