Nikon Coolpix

Nikon Pro, Semi-Pro, amateur digital SLR and have always been well received, but before Digicams appeared in a film of Star Trek. The first Coolpix (CP 900) was an innovative design that allows physically divided the zoom to move independently of the camera LCD. The look different from the original Coolpix Digicams not catch on, as well as the more traditional public and Canon for cameras. Nikon Digicam latest, “S” for the Nikon Coolpix S620 style, looks almost like any other digital output ultra there.

The S620 is an auto exposure only digital camera with manual exposure capability. In automatic mode the camera selects the aperture and shutter speed, but allows users to control the sensitivity (ISO), white balance, color / saturation, and exposure compensation. Nikon D-Lighting function automatically increases nifty underexposed images by subtle lightening dark areas without affecting properly exposed areas. Nikon BSS (Best Shot Selector) function automatically captures 10 sequential frames, and then saves the one with the focus point.

The Nikon Coolpix S620 is very quick - it is not always the fastest camera in its class, but it is never the slowest. Starting time of 0.07 seconds and is retarded (press to capture - pre-centered) is also 0.07 seconds. AF Acquisition (press to capture - not before the focus) is very snappy 0.28 seconds. The S620 is the continuous shooting mode (which allows users to capture multiple images in rapid succession) is 3 frames in 1.7 seconds. Overall, the S620 comes with a little faster than average.

Like most of its competition, the S620 images optimized for the bold, bright colors, contrast and balance that many veteran shooters concern to consumers of color - color is usually quite accurate with most colors relatively close to neutral. Reds are a little warm, blues are a little brighter, the greens are a little too vibrant, and (like the vast majority of point-and-shoots) tend towards blue violet - but most casual shooters ( The target audience for the S620) will probably not be much bothered by these minor flaws.

Outdoors, the S620 (like most of its competitors) do a great job - image quality is very good reliable. The risks are always accurate, but a lot of sky in the picture, probably as a result slightly overexposed images. Check out the “wide angle” image - is surprisingly little slight barrel distortion. There is some slight edge softness, but that is typical of small super zoom Digicam complex.
Interior image quality is also good, but it automatically raises the sensitivity to overcome the lower levels of ambient light, noise and increases color accuracy suffers a little. Noise levels are quite reasonable up to ISO 400, but noise levels are rising rapidly increases the sensitivity.

Tablet PC

The Eee PC T91 is the first touchscreen Netbook of the company that created the category of laptops Netbook. It is too early to know if consumers are going crazy for T91 in the same way they have for all the other Eee PC, but it’s safe to say this is quite unique mini tablet. The Eee PC T91 has a thin and light chassis design weight of just two pounds and measuring no more than an inch thick. The lithium polymer battery composed certainly helps to maintain a minimum thickness, but the lack of an extended life battery option may bother some buyers (more on that later).

The new Eee PC T91 uses a nice, bright 8.9-inch backlit LED display panel with a resolution of 1024×600. The glossy screen offers good color and contrast, but the glare and reflections under strong lights indoors or outdoors under direct sunlight can be a problem. Accuracy of the touch screen looks good, although our review unit required a recalibration after he arrived from the touch screen shows the activity of half an inch to the right of where we’ve touched the screen. After calibration everything worked fine.

The T91 is fast becoming compressed mode with a twist of the screen and press the screen rotate button engaged. The included stylus pen is not very large, and indeed collapses to half its size for storage inside the silo for the pen in the front of the T91. The biggest problem I have with this pen (not the small) is that often collapses when the smaller size is being used to write notes.

HP Tablet

The HP TouchSmart tx2z stands alone as a rare example of a consumer-focused convertible tablet PC. We’re not sure if this is because non-business-related laptop users don’t see the value of a touch-screen tablet, but hopefully they’ll catch on soon.

The tx2z is an evolution of HP’s previous tx1000 and tx2000 models (from 2007 and 2008, respectively), adding the TouchSmart moniker and going beyond the digital pen and single-finger input by adding multitouch commands.

The majority of the keyboard is a good size for regular typing. The only bit of funny key reshaping was the function keys that are comically small. If you don’t feel like navigating directly on the screen with pen or finger, there is a small, but serviceable, touch pad.

The 12.1-inch wide-screen LCD display offers a 1,280×800 native resolution, which is standard for a screen this size. Of course this being a tablet, the screen is a little more important than a standard laptop LCD. The tx2z has a dual-mode display, meaning you can use a digital pen for drawing and taking notes as well as your finger for navigating, opening apps, and flipping through your photos.

The multitouch works fine, but frequently there’s a noticeable lag between making the gesture and the laptop actually doing the task. For example, launching HP’s MediaSmart interface for accessing CDs/DVDs, photos, music, video, or Internet TV requires a specific curvy-line multitouch gesture that we’re still trying to figure out the secret to. Or you can press the launch button on the screen’s bezel; we vote “button,” as it works every time. Similarly, why would you bother to use an awkward gesture to maybe rotate a photo when there’s an onscreen button you can tap and get the same result, guaranteed?

The display is on a single, rotating hinge (to the left only, please) and this model’s tiny-but-decent-sounding Altec Lansing speakers are built into the bottom of the display. The screen will auto rotate, but there’s a rotate key on the bezel should you need it, along with Windows Mobility Center launch button, the aforementioned MediaSmart button, a fingerprint reader, and a Webcam.

There’s not a lot of room on this chassis for ports and connections, but HP managed to include just enough to impress us. HP offers plenty of configuration options for this system. Despite having the highest-end, dual-core AMD processor HP offers for the tx2z, the 2.4GHz AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core ZM-86, this laptop managed only average performance, on par with a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400.

The TouchSmart tx2z ran for 3 hours on our video playback battery drain test, using the included extended 8-cell battery. It’s a large battery that adds considerable weight and bulk to the dimensions of this otherwise ultraportable notebook, but powering a multitouch tablet screen would likely drain a smaller battery very quickly.
